US Open braces for weather disruptions
The organisers of the US Open are bracing for bad weather ahead of the men's semi-finals and ladies final.
New York is likely to catch the tail of tropical storm Hanna on Saturday, with heavy rain expected to disrupt play at Flushing Meadows.
An inclement weather warning has been issued to ticket holders for the remaining US Open matches, as organisers prepare for the possibility of having to reschedule the concluding matches for Sunday or early next week.
“The USTA has several contingency plans in place depending on the time and duration of the inclement weather,” the ticket advisory read. “Those plans will be implemented and communicated as the forecast develops throughout the day on Friday.”
“I'm ready to play tomorrow. Hopefully we can," ladies singles finalist Serena Williams said after playing a match affected by blustery weather. "If not, I'll be ready for Sunday, Monday, Tuesday — doesn't matter."
