Williams and Jankovic to meet in US Open final

Serena Williams will meet Jelena Jankovic in the final of the US Open after breezing past Dinara Safina in Friday's semi-final.

Williams needed just two sets to eliminate Safina, as her superior power helped her to a 6-3, 6-2 victory. The only moment of uncertainty for Williams came early in the first set when Safina broke her serve to take a 2-0 lead.

However, it was all Williams from there on in, as the American overcame blustery conditions to power back into the lead. The match was laced with errors from both players, with Williams racking up a total of 41 unforced errors, while Safina scored a series of critical double faults.

In the day's other semi-final Jelena Jankovic took two sets to eliminate Elena Dementieva 6-4, 6-4 to book her first appearance in a grand slam final.

"Mentally, I feel I'm a lot stronger, because I really believe in myself. I really want to do this, and it's about time for me to make that step forward to break that barrier," Jankovic said after the match. "I want to win a Grand Slam, and this is why I came here."
