Jankovic made a nervous start to her fourth round match before finding her feet in windy conditions at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. The Serb lost the first set before rallying in the remaining two sets to record a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 win.

"In the first set she played quite solid. I was the one who was all over the place. I couldn't find my rhythm in these conditions and she took advantage of that," Jankovic said after setting up a quarterfinal confrontation with Austria's Sybille Bammer.

"I stayed calm and composed and knew I had to do something to change that. In the second set I did the smart things and I cruised through the second and third set."

Meanwhile Elena Dementieva beat China's Ni La with comparative ease, keeping her US Open title hopes alive with a 6-4, 6-1 win. Dementieva, who along with Jankovic is in contention for the world number one ranking, will play Switzerland's Patty Schnyder in the quarterfinals of the 2008 US Open.
