Federer to face del Potro in US Open final
Roger Federer secured passage to the final of the 2009 US Open on Sunday, defeating Novak Djokovic in straight sets in the US Open semifinals.
Djokovic was never able to gain the upper hand in the match despite giving Federer a tough workout. Federer’s excellent returns and determination were ultimately enough to deny Djokovic an appearance in the final as he won the match 7-6, 7-5, 7-5.
Meanwhile the other men’s semifinal saw Argentinean sensation Juan Martin del Potro put an end to Rafael Nadal’s grand slam comeback, as he easily defeated the Spaniard 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 to take a place opposite Federer in the US Open final.
"It's very difficult for me to speak at this moment," Del Potro said after the match. "I'm very, very happy, this is my favourite tournament and I can't believe this moment. I'm very close now to my dream to win this tournament. I hope to do it but I'm so happy to be here in this moment.”
"If I win or lose tomorrow, I think this is the best moment of my life."
