US Open Betting Tips

Men's Singles

Venus Williams of the US serves to Justine Henin of Belgium during the women's semi-final match at the US Open Tennis Championship, 07 September 2007, at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New YorkThe men's singles event at the 2009 US Open will, in all probability, be won by the one dominant man standing - Roger Federer. He has the uncanny knack of winning back-to-back titles, and the US Open is no different.

He has claimed the top prize since 2004 with relative ease. No one final has gone the full distance of five sets, truly remarkable when you consider that the other finalists include the great Andre Agassi, former world number ones, Andy Roddick and Lleyton Hewitt and the current world number three, Serb, Novak Djokovic.

At the age of 27 Federer is possibly at the peak of his career, although he slipped down to world number two in 2008, and a good US Open betting tip is that there does not seem to be anybody out there who has the ability to unseat this genius of the tennis courts - even his greatest rival, Rafael Nadal who has finally reached world number one status.

Federer is also the kind of man that will elevate his game a notch or two when he is out hunting a record, and victory at the 2009 US Open will mean that he will break the career records of the best of the two legends of the game, Pete Sampras and Jimmy Connors. It is highly unlikely that he will allow anyone in to spoil his party.

Flushing Meadows sports an acrylic hard court surface, and when you look at Federer's win loss record on hard courts, it is difficult to see him come up second best. In 2007 he won 44 matches and lost six on hard courts, and his career stats are even more disconcerting should you be a pretender to his throne - 326-67!

Women's Singles

The women's singles event in New York will probably be a more enticing affair. Defending champion Serena Williams returns to the Arthur Ashe Stadium in 2009 in peak form.

She had a stunning 2008 season, she was runner up to Venus Williams at Wimbledon 2008, then partnered up with her sister to claim the women's doubles title at Wimbledon. The Williams Sisters went on to win gold medals for the women's doubles tournament, at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

She has also been tested recently by the growing number of Eastern Europeans who are languishing at the top of the WTA ranking. Any of the top ten could challenge her on the day - Ana Ivanovic or Jelena Jankovic are good US Open betting tips.

Never discount the value of home ground advantage, and both Serena and Venus Williams seem to be on the resurgence. If either of them gets going then the Eastern European bunch will have a real fight on there hands.
